WHAT IS NUTRITION AND HOW MARIANNE CAN HELP YOU:

Nutrition is the use of food to nourish and fuel the body. This process involves the breaking down of food into its component parts which includes; fats, carbohydrates, proteins, minerals and vitamins. The key to good nutrition is the balancing of these nutrients, as well as ensuring they are in the right form, for maximum efficiency apposed to turning into fats.

Nutrition is not a “one size fits all” science. Each individual has varying needs and requirements, based on a variety of factors such as; age, lifestyle, activity level, sex etc.

To help you to achieve your full potential Marianne creates a custom nutritional programme that is specifically tailored to your individual needs. The programme is realistic and designed to suit your lifestyle, time constraints and food preferences.

SPORTS NUTRITION:

Correct nutrition is important for anyone practising sport, whether amateur or professional. Specific forms of nutrition will not only enhance your performance but also provide the appropriate fuel for maximum stamina and endurance during exercise as well as help the body in healing and recovery post exercise.

Food can be categorized as either fuel - primarily carbohydrates, or building materials - primarily proteins, vitamins and minerals, and essential fats.

Marianne creates a personalised programme based on your individual needs. The factors for the personalised programme include the sport you participate in, your age and any other health issues you may have, such as recent injuries etc.

When creating your personalised programme Marianne takes into consideration factors such as the specific sport and events that you are training for, or if you are just seeking to improve your current level of fitness.

One such example of Marianne's success in this field is that in 2009, at short notice, she devised a training and pre-fight diet for European Amateur Bantamweight Champion Luke Campbell (pictured above centre).

Following his first fight, at the World Championships in Milan, Luke had complained of feeling 'heavy legged' after just a couple of rounds. A series of international phone calls between the two took place, after which Marianne created a diet plan and this problem was resolved by his very next fight just one week later.

NUTRITION FOR FOOD ALLERGIES & INTOLERANCES:

Many people are confused by food allergies and food intolerances. It is a misconception that they are the same as they are two totally unrelated reactions to foods.

A food allergy is an adverse immune response to a food protein. Food allergy is distinct from other adverse responses to food, such as food intolerance, pharmacologic reactions, and toxin-mediated reactions.

The symptoms for a food allergy can be similar to those for any allergic reaction including;

* Skin reactions - such as swelling, itching or flushing
* Sore, red and itchy eyes
* Vomiting and/or diarrhea
* Coughing, wheezing or a runny nose
* Swelling of the lips

A food intolerance however, is the inability to digest certain foods and does not involve the immune system. An example of this would be lactose intolerance; this is the inability to digest lactose, the sugar found in milk. Typical symptoms would include abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhea, but food intolerances can trigger mental dissorders ranging from ADHD to Schizophrenia.

If you suffer from any of the following there is also a strong possibility that you may also have a food intolerance;

* Depression
* Mood swings
* Insomnia
* Low Energy
* Weight gain
* Under active Thyroid
* Frequent, rapid colds and/or blocked nose
* Dyslexia or learning difficulties
* Facial puffiness and/or dark circles around the eyes
* Hay fever
* Eczema
* Asthma
* Rashes
* Arthritis

Following the consultation, and any additional laboratory tests required to determine any food allergies or intolerances, a specific nutrition programme will then be recommended to remove any allergens whilst ensuring a healthy balanced diet.

Often once these foods have been removed from the diet for a period of time, they can then be gradually reintroduced and often tolerated again. However, when undertaking reintroduction of the foods the symptoms need to be carefully monitored and it is very important not to eat them to excess, as this may cause the intolerance to return.

Please note: It is often that the foods you crave that are usually those you are intolerant to.

THE CONSULTATION PROCESS & FEES:

At the first of two initial face-to-face consultations you will have a questionnaire to fill in, after which Marianne and yourself will discuss your health concerns, history, diet, and lifestyle in more detail so that she is able to devise an initial plan of action to suit yourself.

Part of the initial plan of action includes the keeping off a dedicated food diary, this would be for period of not less than seven days or longer than one month, which you can either post of e.mail. On receiving the food diary Marianne will create a custom programme for yourself and arrange the second of the initial consultations at which she will provide you with the custom programme to take home with you.

Marianne's aim is to work with you in order to create a manageable programme based on your individual circumstances, taking into consideration any time and financial limitations you may have.

Nutritional Supplements may also be recommended for specific nutrient imbalances or deficiencies.

If a particular condition or symptom requires further investigation, then appropriate biochemical tests can be arranged.

The initial consultation fee, which includes the two initial meetings and the custom programme, is £100 - which can be pre-paid below if required . Follow up consultations fees are £55.
